The Writing Workshop

In each hour-long workshop, I’ll introduce a favorite, juicy psychotherapeutic idea. We’ll then generate writing with prompts inspired by the concept at play.

We’ll look at examples from lit and culture, engage in generative writing sessions, and hold time for optional sharing.

Upcoming Topics:

CONDENSATION – how little snapshots contain multitudes

SUBLIMATION – how we channel our desires and our fears

PROJECTIVE IDENTIFICATION – how we engage in spooky unconscious communication

PARAPRAXIS – the meaning of slips, accidents, and mishaps

LOCUS OF CONTROL – how we perceive agency in our lives

EGO IDEAL – how an inner “best self” can serve and shame

ATTACKS ON THINKING – when smart people lose the ability to think

SPLITTING – how we protect ourselves by conceiving a simpler world

THE BAD OBJECT –when early failures skew the view

REPITITION COMPULSION – moved to repeat the past

INTELLECTUALIZATION – how smarts and reason hide emotion
